What Sponsors Want

Selling single golfers or foursomes helps fill the field but typically it does little to raise the kind of bottom line net revenue you’re hoping to achieve from your “fundraising” golf event. That requires sponsorship sales. Your tournament committee will be the focus of this effort and should be comprised of people that have the community outreach capability to bring in the money! Not just people that are looking for recognition and a pat on the back for their help.

How can you, as tournament organizer, increase the chances that they’ll be successful in their efforts? Branding!

In our 13+ years of experience, we've found sponsors are looking for on-site, day-of branding of their companies to maximize their event presence to your participants. For this reason, advertising branding elements into the sponsorship packages you ask your Committee to sell is absolutely critical!
Here’s a few suggestions on “how to”:
  • First and foremost you should have proper tournament and sponsor recognition signage to give your tournament and professional feel and recognize your sponsors adequately. A Sponsor Board and Banner at registration are essential - as are on-course sponsor signs recognizing your sponsors. We highly recommend our Sponsor Plaques for on-course sponsor signage as they serve not only as on-course signage but also as a gift for your sponsors to be presented during your banquet.

  • Offer a tent on a tee box as a sponsor benefit for their staff to give out company materials and interact with the golfers. The golf course will provide a skirted table and chairs. At most you invest a few dollars in a sports store “quick set up” tent.

  • Offer the opportunity for a sponsor to provide a promotional item to your arrival gift offering. This benefits them by advertising their brand/company while providing your goflers with more value in their arrival gift offering.

  • Provide “Naming Rights” to the Skills Challenge Contests. You’ll already be providing awards for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin.  Now, offer a prospective sponsor the ability to have them announced as the “Sponsor of the Longest Drive at Hole X” pre-golf, and again at the awards ceremony.

  • Hire a Long Drive Hitter - they will often share funds raised 50/50 so no cost to you - and have them wear a sponsor logo’d polo. At the Tee Box he announces he’s there due to the “gracious support of Sponsor X…”. Great brand exposure for your sponsor.
